Yard Attendant

Reports to the Yard Manager
Team of two to three full time and three shared part time based on the time of year.

Rate of pay is $22.50 to $25 per hour based on experience.

Mid December to Mid March 35 hrs per week. Mid March to Mid December average 42.5 hours per week.

Work mostly Monday to Friday with the occasional Saturday if business dictates.

Working outside year round.

Must have experience with operating and basic maintenance on a tractor and skid steer.

Must have strong communication skills both orally and written.

Must have strong basic math skills being able to measure, count and record accurately.
The job entails

Logs

After a log truck is unloaded by the hauler.

The logs are scaled which is measuring the inside diameter on the small end of the log inside the bark then marking it on the small end in wood chalk. Then measuring the length of the log. Recording the diameter and length legibly on log scaling sheet so we can pay the logger and then the office can enter the logs into inventory.
Putting the logs away by species and length.

Retrieving the logs by species, diameter and length based on the requirements of the sawmill for that day. They are placed on a log deck in the sawmill that the head sawyer can drop one at a time onto the sawmill deck. Can never let the log deck go empty and hence shutting down production.

End of day

All the milled lumber is taken to be put away. It can go to

• Customer pick up area making sure the customer name is legible on the lumber tag
• Exterior pine storage area by length and then size.
• Interior coverall non pine storage area
• Next kiln flip storage area

Customers

Must be able to check inventory of all our rough sawn lumber for customer inquiries/requests. Once the order is confirmed pull the lumber to our customer pick up area making 100% sure it is all there ready for pick up.

Once the customer arrives loading the lumber into their vehicle or trailer. Again being 100% sure it is all there. Have the customer sign they have received the lumber. Ensure payment has been made.

Clean up and Safety

Paramount the yard area is always clean and tidy. Paramount for a safe working environment.

Clearing understand the safe operation of all equipment with daily inspections.
