JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Lower Mainland Purpose Society is seeking an Accountant to administer the Society's financial operations. The position is 28 hours per week, with salary commiserate with education, certification and experience.
The Lower Mainland Purpose Society is a medium size non-profit multi-service organization. It provides a range of educational, family, youth, health and residential programs across the North Fraser Region, with a staff base of approximately 200 employees.
Responsibilities:
- Formulate and implement financial policies as required.
- Monitor accounting policies and procedures..
- Prepare and monitor annual budgets.
- Manage cash and financial activities such as banking arrangements, investments, mortgage arrangements and the safeguarding of assets.
- Ensure the completion of monthly accounting procedures including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank deposits and bank reconciliation.
- Ensure the production of monthly financial statements.
- Assist with the financial component of all funding proposals and grant applications.
- Ensure funding invoices are submitted in a timely manner.
- Prepare term contract/funding reports as required.
- Work with the external auditor to ensure the completion of the year-end audit.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Post-secondary education in the area of financial management/accounting procdures required.
· Three to five years' experience working in an office environment with responsibility for financial operational systems and accounting procedures. Experience working in a non-profit social service setting strongly beneficial. Knowledge of fundraising strategies an assest.
