POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The successful applicantwill promote the values, principles, and objectives of the SEIU Healthcare Training Centre and WorkersFirst Healthcare as an integral part of the finance team that provides useful, accurate, and timely information to Senior Management for decision making and strategic planning as well as policy and internal control implementations. The position holder will report to the Director of Finance, and work in close coordination with other members of the WorkersFirst Healthcare teams, the finance team at SEIU Healthcare, management, and others with respect to financial reporting and accounting matters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform general accounting duties including adjusting journal entries, account reconciliations, bank reconciliation and inter-company reconciliations; perform month-end and year-end duties; prepare documents for and assist in year-end audit.
  • Perform full cycle of accounts payable functions including reviewing, analyzing and processing vendor invoices and EFT payments through the financial system in place and online banking system; processing Interac e-Transfer payment to members on a weekly basis; processing other forms of payments as required.
  • Responsible for full cycle of accounts receivable function including generating AR invoices and processing cash receipts; working closely with workplaces/employers with regards to outstanding invoices, reconciling discrepancies if any.
  • Maintain accurate member record; reconcile due deductions with dues revenue.
  • Work closely with the CEO and/or President regarding new members information list; generate and modify to ensure the list is accurate before uploading to UW system.
  • Review, analyze and process bi-weekly payroll for a very limited number of employees using Payworks payroll platform while adhering to legislative requirements and organizational policies.
  • Perform all payroll related reconciliation including year-end reconciliation of WSIB premium and EHT if applicable; reconcile, prepare and process T4 and T4A at year-end.
  • Process record of employment (ROE’s) when appropriate accurately within the required timeline per Service Canada guidelines.
  • Perform HST reconciliation and remittances; prepare and process other government remittances as required.
  • Prepare financial reports and management reports as required.
  • Maintain operating files for the above duties and other relevant filings.
  • Support the administrative needs of the WorkersFirst member recruitment team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and related field plus demonstrated accounting and financial reporting skills and experience.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and accounting practices in general accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable is required.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in performing full cycle Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and general accounting and related duties.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in performing full cycle payroll functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in using Great Plains (GP) and/or other ERP financial system.
  • Demonstrated experience in using payroll platforms such as Payworks, ADP, Ceridian or other payroll platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing month-end and year-end closing duties and other adjusting journal entries as well as AP and AR related month-end and year-end reconciliations. Demonstrated experience in preparing year-end audit documents and assisting with year-end audit.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Advanced skills in Outlook and Excel (VLOOKUP, PivotTable, etc.).
  • Proficiency in using accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, Xero)
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Solid understanding of payroll processes and regulations
  • Ability to perform account analysis and reconciliation accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with individuals across different functions within the organization.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Enthusiastic, driven, and forward thinking with a result focused approach.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT

  • Office work can include prolonged periods of sitting at a workstation and certain repetitive movements associated with such work.
  • Using a computer for long periods of time.
  • Frequent use of telephone.
  • Lifting and moving supplies and materials up to 25lbs.
  • There may be times (special projects) during which overtime is required. This should be on an occasional basis.
