About The Role

KulKon Construction is looking for a Construction Accountant to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for many things from accounts payable, accounts receivable, property taxes, interest payments, draw preparation, monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly close process, just to name a few. Key Responsibilities

  • Experience in full cycle accounting to manage monthly accounting processes for development projects.
  • Prepare financial statements, reconciliations and associated reports
  • Prepare monthly financial working papers
  • Maintain project details in accounting systems by setting up new projects (jobs), budgets, job costs in accounting system
  • GST fillings
  • Prepare development draws and support bank reporting based on financing requirements
  • Ensure costs are correctly coded to correct project, labour and expense cost codes;
  • Produce & administer monthly progress billing.
  • Assist with month-end and quarter-end close processes for assigned projects including all reconciliations, including project cashflow forecasting and reporting;
  • Review all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment;
  • Generate various project financial statements and reports. Track construction holdback accounts, and coordinate holdback releases with subcontractors, Project Managers, and the accounting department;
  • Collaborate with the development and construction team regarding financial aspects of the development and predevelopment projects
  • Verify and process employee expense reports
  • Contribute to setting up and implementing of new processes and controls
  • Participate in new accounting software implementation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

You can excel working independently and collaboratively in a team environment by leveraging resources and connecting with people around the company to problem-solve your way through complex tasks. We are looking for somebody who is extremely detailed and organized, with the ability to effectively manage accounting requirements for a portfolio of projects. You are self-driven, motivated, and eager to learn – character traits that have proven to be extremely valuable to the organization.

Skills and Experience

· At least three to five (3-5) years of project accounting and job costing work experience within the construction industry, CPA/CMA designation preferred;

· Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs;

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills – demonstrated confidence and ability in communicating with various stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and construction project teams;

· A team player that can work in an entrepreneurial environment and balance changing priorities, meeting deadlines and take direction from multiple sources;

· Self-motivated and proactive with an established track record of effectively completing tasks independently;

· Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;

· Strong attention to detail and adherence to standards with a track record of actively checking for accuracy;

· Familiarity with Project management software would be considered an asset;

· Proficient at working in a digital and paper-free environment. Strong quantitative skills, established critical thinking and analytical ability;

The base salary range for this role may be $85,000 to $95,000, depending on experience, plus a competitive performance-based bonus program. During the interview process, let’s talk to get the right fit for your experience level.
