Volunteer opportunity (5-10 hours per month)

Who we hope to find:
The Connect Fund is seeking a driven and team-oriented person to support the accounting operations of our not-for-profit (NFP). Working with the Board of Directors, the position will be hands-on, utilizing your ability to link critical thinking with day-to-day accounting knowledge. This is an exciting opportunity for an Accountant who wants to grow in their career and expand their knowledge base with exposure to NFP and charitable organizations.
In this role, you'll make an impact by:
- Supporting the Board of Directors and the President in learning financial terminology required in the NFP sector
- Developing financial statements for the organization
- Facilitating accounting of donations
- Assisting with the preparation of financial reports and consolidated financial statements
- Assisting with the preparation of the annual financial review and providing support during the review
- Supporting the development of new financial reporting and analytics to drive transparency and business insights
We need someone who has:
- A post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related field
- A recent Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- 2+ years of accounting experience including time when trying to obtain CPA designation
- Strong MS Excel skills and G-Suite (Gmail, Google Drive, etc.)
- Exposure to working with a variety of accounting systems
- Self-motivation and strong problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills with a strong commitment to ensuring deadlines are achieved
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively
- Comfortability working in a business environment that is dynamic and constantly changing
It would also be great if you have:
- Previous experience at an accounting firm
- Experience working with a NFP or charity

The Connect Fund is a federal non-profit supporting the health and well-being of LGBTQ2S+ Canadians, with a focus on trans, non-binary and gender-diverse communities. It offers funding directly to patients for individual health and wellness costs not covered by provincial public health systems. The Connect Fund solicits corporate and individual donations, which are then distributed to LGBTQ2S+ beneficiaries.
