Candidates are invited to apply for the above position to work at our Retirement Residence and Assisted Living Facility located on the waterfront in Orillia, Ontario. The rewarding position consists of ~12 hours biweekly, alternating evenings 6-8:30 (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays), weekends 10-3:00(Saturdays) and Sunday evenings for summertime Concerts in the Park), and covering of Activity Department staff’s time off.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, setup, and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Activity Coordinator
- Assist with the development and preparation of communication tools (calendars, newsletters, posters, notices, etc.) designed to provide residents, their families and friends, people located outside of our retirement residence and volunteers, with information regarding current/future activities and special events
- Assist with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing attendance and individual participation, as well as daily charting/documentation
- Assist in reminding and transporting residents to and from activities
- Assist and monitor residents during the activities, reporting any significant changes to the Activity Coordinator and nursing staff as appropriate
- Work cooperatively with Activity Department staff, volunteers, and other multi-disciplinary team members to meet resident needs
- Perform other tasks as required or as requested by the Activity Coordinator
Qualifications:
- Customer service experience required
- Experience in recreation or recreation therapy beneficial but not required
- Ability to multi-task, and possess conflict resolution skills
- Previous experience working with seniors preferred but not necessary
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written), as well as excellent leadership/organization and documentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, et cetera)
- Flexible, detail-oriented, able to work independently and manage time effectively
- Passion for helping others while bringing fun and joy to all that you do
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate resident activities/programs/events
- Possess empathy and awareness of the aging process and the needs of seniors with differences in cognitive abilities
- Demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of the background and specific needs of each individual resident compassionately
- Current (within 6 months) Police Vulnerable Sector Check
