Position Overview
The Town of Bancroft is hiring an Administrative Assistant, Summer Student position to assist with the daily operations of the Clerk's Department, including administrative tasks as assigned by the General Manager. This is a Temporary position at 35 hours per week, with an anticipated start date of May 6th, 2024 (flexible) and ending September 1st,
2024 (flexible). The rate of pay for this position is $17.50/hour. The preferred candidates will be comfortable working independently and demonstrate core competencies including (but not limited to): communication, team work, and use of technology.
As the Administrative Assistant (SSP), you will learn how to handle challenging situations and develop critical communication skills. You can also expect to develop time management and office administration skills. With an emphasis on learned responsibility, customer service, and organizational skills. Students will be supervised daily by the Clerk, Deputy Clerk, or designated staff, as required.
Responsibilities:
- Develop knowledge of local and regional attractions, events, businesses, services, and community partners;
- Respond to inquiries in a warm, friendly, professional manner (business casual attire required);
- Special projects to help promote economic and community development;
- Share ideas in various areas of service, promotion and displays;
- Assist with the maintenance of physical and digital records
- Supporting the General Manager, as needed.
- Provides secretarial and clerical support to the Clerk/Deputy Clerk
- Assist with statutory powers, duties and administrative functions as required by
Provincial legislation and regulations
Qualifications, Skills & Job Knowledge:
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability to assist people in a friendly, cheerful manner;
- Interest in developing personal knowledge of local area, community groups and community supports;
- Being a team player;
- Being able to work independently and demonstrate initiative;
- Second language is an asset but not required;
- Computer skills;
- Criminal Record Check required;
- Students who are attending a post-secondary institution in September 2024 preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Working in the Municipal Office;
- Very limited weekend event work as required;
- Sitting at a desk with computer and telephone.
- All Summer Students will be given an opportunity to assist with Town events, meaning some limited weekend work may be available.
