The Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis position poses the unique opportunity to partner with various areas of the business and play an integral role in supporting our profitability. Reporting to the Director, Finance - Stores & Capital Investments, this role is responsible for evaluating proposed store capital investments, measuring and analysing their performance, and handling day to day financial activities related to select Store Support Centre departments, including supporting month end, forecasting and annual budgeting activities.
Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Build effective partnerships with key internal stakeholders, i.e. executives and management across the organization
- Assist in the evaluation of proposed investments/capital expenditure as well as measuring and analysing their performance after completion
- Develop & evolve the reporting framework along with KPI's and metrics to track and monitor business performance
- Ownership of the creation of predictive/forecasting models for departments based on historical data and potential changes to key drivers
- Assist in month-end FP&A activities and coordinate with the Accounting team to ensure completeness and timely close of financial records
- Preparation and analysis of department operating expense budgets and regular forecasts
- Prepare detailed commentary to explain the financial results and assist the various lines of business in developing action plans as required
- Development and improvement of new processes and models to support management reporting requirements; maintain a continuous improvement mindset
- Partner with key stakeholders cross-functionally, to solve problems, ensure successful financial performance, challenge the status quo
- Ad-hoc reporting, analysis, and projects, as required
The ideal candidate:
- Post-secondary degree in a related field or (2-3 years) equivalent experience, ideal candidate will also possess an Accounting designation (CPA) or working towards it
- Superior analytical skills with the ability to drive useful business insights
- Advanced Microsoft Office Skills (Excel, PowerPoint); ideal candidate will also have exposure/competency in SAP, IBM Cognos and Microstrategy
- Proven track record with a minimum of 2-3 years of planning and analysis experience preferred
