The Ottawa Valley Historical Society is seeking to hire a motivated student to join our team as an Artifact Collections Assistant at the Upper Ottawa Valley Heritage Centre. This position at our community museum will begin . Anchored by its collection of artifacts, the Ottawa Valley Historical Society connects the history of Pembroke and the greater Upper Ottawa Valley area with contemporary life by telling compelling stories through exhibitions and programming for all ages.

Duties of the position include:
- Accession artifacts and put them in storage or into an exhibit. This involves listing artifacts in the accession register book, filling out artifact worksheets, creating physical accession files for the artifacts, inputting the information and artifact details into the PastPerfect collections software, numbering the artifacts and putting them in storage or on display and then recording that location on PastPerfect.
- Research locations for outreach exhibits in the community and make a list of possible locations.
- Make a list of artifacts for #WhatIsItWednesday social media posts, take pictures of the artifacts if needed and compose and schedule posts through Facebook and Instagram.
- Record temperature and humidity once a week in designated areas of the museum.
- Use PastPerfect to put artifact records on the museum's website for people to access online.
- Take photos and write descriptions for the 360 virtual tour on the museum's website.
- Assist in providing tours of the museum to the general public and renting out Museum in a Box kits when needed.
- Cleaning and maintenance of the four museum artifact storage areas on a weekly basis.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
This job is suited to a university or college student from a community/social studies field, i.e. Museum Studies program. As this job includes a fair amount of computer work, the successful candidate would have excellent organizational skills, a good knowledge of Microsoft Office, be familiar with digital photography and have excellent social media skills. Database entry skills are also considered an asset.

- An interest in history and heritage.
- Experience working in a museum is an asset, but not necessary.
- Research skills.
- Must be a full-time student this past spring and return to full-time studies in the fall.
- Bilingualism is a definite asset.

Wage is $16.55 an hour.
