As a student Collections Assistant for the Collections, CWM Division, you will:
Work with the Collection Specialist and/or Technical Services in the movement, handling and storage of artefacts from diverse collections;
Update artifact database locations as needed;
Fabricate custom artefact housing and packs/moves objects as needed;
Work with photographer to facilitate the digitization of museum collections;
Confer with supervisors, technical services and conservation staff, Collection Specialists, and other Collections staff members on complex artefacts.
What we are looking for:
A diploma or working towards a diploma from an accredited program in Conservation, Heritage studies, or Museum studies from a recognized post-secondary institution;
Knowledge in Conservation practice, principles, theory, and ethics are an asset;
Various computer application software including MS Office Suite and database software such as KE Emu(an asset);
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with site and collections care activities;
Holder of a Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) is an asset;
Experience handling artifacts and reproductions;
Ability to work effectively as part of a team;
Excellent communication skills;
Strong organizational skills, precision;
Military history knowledge is preferred.
Eligibility criteria:
Must be a full-time student at College or University;
Must be returning to full-time studies next session (a proof will be required);
Bilingualism, an asset;
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Working conditions:
37.5 hours per week;
Ability to employ and work in personal protective equipment (PPE);
Ability to stand for hours at a time and lift up to 15 kg (lb);
Hybrid work possible: None, work on site.
Compensation: $17.00/hour to $23.62/hour – variation according to the student’s level of education
Duration: May 27, 2024 to August 16, 2024
