Job Summary

As the provincial government transforms relationships with Indigenous peoples to recognize inherent rights such as self-determination, the Indigenous Relations Branch (IRB) provides a leadership role to the Ministry in its reconciliation efforts with Indigenous Peoples. A key component of reconciliation involves working collaboratively and respectfully with all Indigenous Peoples on building and maintaining partnerships with all levels of Government, industry and partners.
IRB leads work to guide the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action, and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (Declaration Act) in the Ministry. IRB also provides a leadership role to increase Indigenous participation in the forest sector, coordinates consultation processes as well as coordinates the ministry's support to the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR) in treaty and reconciliation initiatives and develops appropriate policy and legislation.

Job Requirements:
  • University degree in a field related to Forestry, Resource Management, Business/Public Administration or equivalent.
  • Experience related to Indigenous relations, including negotiating/mediating solutions in natural resource management.
  • Experience leading and resolving complex staff and/or client issues.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients in a customer service environment.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Who self-identify as having Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
  • Registered, or Eligible for Registration, as a Professional (I.E., Registered Professional Forester) with the British Columbia Association.
  • Experience working with B.C. First Nations, organizations and communities.
  • Experience providing strategic advice to Ministry Executives, or other senior government or industry officials.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any Ministry of Forestsoffice. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
