It was started by the Shepherds family and purchased by the Melvin brothers in 1972. It is now owned by Kyle Melvin and Brett Melvin.

Experienced Building Supplies Sales Associate:
Come work for a great company that is family and community based with great benefits and an awesome team of supportive staff. We need someone who has construction experience and excels in customer service and lumber product awareness.
The Building Supplies Sales Associate will demonstrate a growing understanding and practice of the following KSA:
· A growing knowledge about retail lumber and building material sales and service
· Projects a positive, friendly and helpful attitude toward customers
· Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere with all employees in various departments
· Communicate effectively and confidently with employees, management, suppliers, and customers, to obtain accurate information for pricing, estimates, quotations, etc.
· Willingness to learn and continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.
· Mathematical, organizational and reasoning skills.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
Specific Duties
Customer Service:
· Help customers and contractors with all inquiries through to the point-of-sale purchase
· Assist customers with finding all items needed to complete their project and help customers solve building problems
· Assist customers in locating and comparing merchandise
· Advising customers on the required materials needed for their DIY project
· Communicate product knowledge to the customer as appropriate
· Ensure customers are greeted within 15 seconds of their arrival at the LBM counter
· Determine customer’s needs by asking open-ended questions
· Help customers solve building problem and resolve customer complaints
· Assist customers with carrying out of large or heavy items
Order Processing:
· Entering point of sale purchases with accuracy and speed
· Working with the Lumber yard to coordinate customer pickups and deliveries
· Be familiar with current yard inventory and surplus items
· Be familiar with and maintain up-to-date information on pricing
· Process special orders for non-stock or out of stock items
Building material knowledge:
· Know local building codes and types of building permits issued
· Know prices, practices, and policies of the company’s competitors
· Update yourself with practical knowledge of building materials and lumber products, including their uses, advantages, and disadvantages
Continuous Improvement :
· Suggest rule, policy and / or procedural changes when you believe they would improve efficiency, sales, profits, morale, etc
· Maintain professional confidentiality of all store and customer records
· Know prices, practices, and policies of the company’s competitors
Other duties :
· Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management
· Provide support in other areas of the store as needed
· Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense.
· Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected
· Follow procedures and maintain standards according to store policy in the following areas: loss prevention, receiving and pricing goods, merchandise handling and presentation, housekeeping, reordering merchandise, restocking shelves and handling cash
· attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.

Salary: $20.00-$29.00 per hour
