Job description

Building Systems Technician, Appliance Services Technician

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Facility Services, and within established policies, procedures and guidelines, provide preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs to various types of restaurant-grade culinary and refrigeration equipment and appliances.

This is a full-time position which offers a salary of $59,176.00 to $72,758.20 per annum. This position also offers a comprehensive benefit and a defined benefit pension plan.

Pay Band 11 - ($28.45 to $34.98 per hour)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Appliance Service Technician Certification (445A) with a Red Seal and/or Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (313A) from a recognized institution, or equivalent combination of education and proven experience.
  • Must have a minimum of a valid G2 Gas Fitters licence.
  • Possession of an ODP (Ozone Depletion Card) is an asset.
  • Must be able to use specialized tools, methods, and be able to read and interpret manufacturer’s specifications to appropriately repair, test, calibrate, adjust equipment as needed.
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s Licence with a clean abstract and working knowledge of any applicable legislation / regulations including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of proven appliance repair and maintenance experience with a strong focus on commercial restaurant-grade equipment and refrigeration.
  • Must have recognized experience providing excellent customer service while installing, assembling, removing, servicing, repairing, maintaining, and disposing of restaurant-grade culinary and refrigeration equipment and appliances.
  • Must have experience and be familiar with electrical, plumbing, fire, and gas codes
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude with demonstrated diagnostic abilities is required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, work well with customers, be detail oriented, diligent, and organized.
  • Proven track record of being able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must be comfortable working in a busy and fast-paced environment.
  • Experience and ability to use computerized work order systems to receive, track, and enter/report job progress and completion details
  • Ability to estimate equipment and component requirements for installations, replacements, or repairs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs a variety of skilled maintenance duties involved in the repair and maintenance of Niagara Parks’ restaurant-grade culinary equipment, refrigeration equipment, and appliances.
  • Provide excellent customer service while installing, assembling, removing, servicing, repairing, maintaining, and disposing of restaurant-grade culinary and refrigeration equipment and appliances.
  • Read and interpret work orders and manufacturer’s specifications or blueprints and follows service manual instructions.
  • Complete preventive maintenance work on all equipment through Niagara Parks facilities.
  • Respond to routine and on-demand service requests and perform preventative and corrective maintenance to culinary and refrigeration equipment, and appliances.
  • Monitor and inspect various appliance and culinary equipment systems and refrigeration systems and provide suggestions for enhancement or repair.
  • Troubleshoots various kitchen/restaurant equipment to repair, maintain or calibrate and to complete/assist in the installation of new equipment.
  • Working with, assisting, and/or training other Facilities Maintenance staff or contracted vendor of record (VOR) staff on appliance, culinary, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Recover existing refrigerant and transfer the gases into approved storage containers for disposal.
  • Compile and maintain all information and documentation relevant to all assigned and completed work (e.g., daily work records, work orders, time sheets, and purchase orders).
  • Able to remotely access and be assigned to and report on the progress of work orders and purchase orders trough a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Possess the ability to self-assign and self-monitor work order log for efficient use of time in the CMMS.
  • Source and purchase appropriate replacement parts for downed equipment or new installation applications.
  • Oversee cross-trade work orders and manage small projects with the cooperation of co-workers as directed by Manager, Facility Services.
  • Recommend and maintain inventory of spare parts to anticipate and minimize appliance, culinary, and refrigeration equipment downtime.
  • Determine the impact of required work and communicate/coordinate repairs and repair schedules with appliance, culinary, and refrigeration equipment end-users.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, standards, and policies (e.g., Ontario Regulation 493/17 Food Premises Regulations).
  • Provide expert advice to project team to better enhance the quality of NPC driven projects.
  • Must be able to complete manual tasks such as: bending, reaching, standing, lifting, or carrying up to 60 lbs.
  • Respond to after-hours maintenance issues.

Performs Other Related Duties

  • Must be willing and able to work overtime on short notice and to perform shift work and standby on a rotational schedule to full-fill the requirements of a seven-day operation.
  • Report broken, lost, or defective tools or equipment to supervisor.
  • Drive NPC vehicles to pick-up supplies and deliver equipment to various work sites.
  • As assigned.
