POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Bylaw Services Manager, the Bylaw Enforcement Officer/Business Licence Inspector is
responsible for the maintenance, updating (as assigned and in consultation with other City departments),
indexing and enforcement of City Bylaws; administration of the City’s Business Licence Bylaw and related
inspections and consultations, and undertake research into bylaw/licencing related issues and formulate written
reports; maintain status of Bylaw Enforcement/licencing matters; supervise the animal control services and
downtown parking functions.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Grade 12 Diploma or GED
- Successful completion of Investigative Skills Course Level 1 through the Justice Institute of BC, or
- Eligibility for membership in LGCEA (Local Government Compliance & Enforcement Association of BC)
- Bylaw Enforcement Program Certification from a recognized training institute
• Two (2) years Municipal Bylaw Enforcement experience
- Five (5) years related Local Government experience
- Training in Law and/or Bylaw Enforcement
LICENSES / CERTIFICATES
- Valid Class five (5) BC Driver’s License
- Occupational First Aid - Level 1

- Demonstrated high degree of Initiative, sound judgement, positive and responsive when dealing with the
- Demonstrated good and efficient computer skills
- Effective listener, and inquisitive and ability to ask questions
• Knowledge of enforcement
- Ability to maintain records and reports
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
