Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.


Job Description


The City of Mission is seeking an experienced, self-motivated individual to ensure compliance with the City's traffic and parking regulations, investigate complaints, enforce bylaws and perform a variety of inspection, regulatory and enforcement duties related to the investigation and enforcement of municipal bylaws and policies on a full-time, temporary basis from March to December 2024.

This position involves extensive public relations contact which requires the exercise of independent judgment, action, tact and diplomacy as you will be responsible for performing patrols and enforcing parking related bylaws on assigned City streets, lanes and parking lots to ensure vehicles are parked in compliance with municipal bylaws, interpreting and explaining parking regulations to the public; investigating public complaints regarding illegally parked vehicles, providing exceptional customer service and preparing reports. You will issue warnings, informations, and bylaw violation notices; arrange for the removal of unlawfully parked vehicles and perform other duties as required including act a license inspector assessing business license applications and issuing licenses.


Qualifications


The ideal candidate will have completed the Justice Institute of British Columbia’s (JIBC) Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement and Investigative Skills 1 and Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement and Investigative Skills 2 courses (or recognized equivalent) supplemented by courses in Human Behaviour and Criminology (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered). At least two years of experience performing related enforcement work is required.

You will have excellent organizational skills; the ability to problem-solve; work independently and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. A valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean criminal record is required.


Additional Information


This position requires flexibility in the four-day work week (nine-hour shifts) work schedule; the incumbent will work Wednesday to Saturday shift three weeks per month and Tuesday to Friday shift one week per month. The hours vary between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and 10:00 am to 7:30 pm.

The 2024 hourly rate of pay for this full-time, time-durated CUPE position is $42.03 plus 4.4% in lieu of all benefits increasing to 12.4% following the probationary period.
