POSITION: Certified PT/OT Assistant
UNIT: Physiotherapy
STATUS: Temporary Full Time (approximately April 8, 2024 - January 12, 2025 - may be extended or end sooner)
SALARY: $29.24 - $29.78
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Certified PT/OT Assistant, under the direction of the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, provides support and assistance to patients in the performance of their therapeutic programs and completes tasks needed to maintain the safety and efficiency of the treatment environment. This position provides service to a variety of orthopaedic, cardiopulmonary and neurological patients within the inpatient acute care and rehab settings.
HOURS:
This position must be available to work days, all shifts on weekends and/or statutory holidays. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Graduate of a Physiotherapy and/or Occupational Therapy Assistant Certified program from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience working in a facility with patients requiring rehabilitation for surgical, medical, complex continuing care and geriatric patients.
- Ability to solve problems and seek guidance when appropriate.
- Ability to communicate and deal effectively with difficult conversations and situations utilizing excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the equipment and materials used in the provision of PT/OT treatments.
- Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team, as well as independently.
- An energetic, compassionate person who demonstrates an interest in working with a variety of patients.
- Keen interest in using a goal oriented and patient-centered approach to patient care.
- Excellent telephone, data entry/computer systems skills and word-processing skills including proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and computer skills that support the utilization of statistics programs and the Cerner Electronic Patient Record.
- Demonstrated acceptable previous performance reflective of STEGH's Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct.
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance at Work Program.
Successful candidates must provide evidence of having received a full primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine or combination of vaccines authorized by Health Canada and having received the final dose 14 days before entering STEGH.
