General Accountabilities:
Conduct technical/economic/regulatory impact assessments and other specialized technical studies to determine distribution system needs related to distribution stations, lines and distributed generation, with a focus on protection and automation.
Analyze problems, develop strategies, alternatives and preferred solution; and facilitate delivery of solution through suppliers and service providers.
Research available resources and contacts and propose effective recommendations to improve performance. Recognize areas requiring further action to avoid problems.
Assist in monitoring and controlling distribution protection and control (P&C) programs and projects as well as coordinating activities with Service Providers and Stakeholders.
Assist in developing protection and automation solutions to enable distribution modernization of distribution stations, lines, P&C equipment and distributed generation projects and programs.
Prepare comprehensive financial reports, conduct analysis and present recommendations to resolve issues, producing necessary documentation.
Participate in the development, definition and preparation of programs, process, technical/operational/business standards, procedures or methods, including risk management and costing related to management of distribution assets. Monitor service provider performance; provide re-direction as required.
Contribute to the development of the business plan and regulatory submissions related to distribution programs.
Maintain an awareness of advancing technology developments in distribution equipment and systems and potential impacts to Hydro One's distribution programs.
Receive assignment from Supervisor on broad terms on specific problems related to areas of assigned work.

Selection Criteria:
Essential Competencies:
Requires knowledge and experience in power system asset management, planning and operation/maintenance practices including knowledge of distribution protection and automation schemes, applications and power system studies.
Requires an understanding of distribution systems in Ontario and the technical standards used by electrical utilities.
Requires experience to be familiar with the application of information technology to management control systems.
Requires experience to be familiar with the scope and responsibilities of the position, transmission and distribution facilities, organization and operation of related work groups.
Requires knowledge of business administration of project management, electrical power systems and equipment related to transmission/distribution/information system assets, mathematics, information technology to assist in carrying out theoretical, economic and engineering analytical studies related to the application, design and performance of the transmission/distribution/information systems.
Ability to function effectively as a team member with a demonstrated ability to be an agent of change.
Requires knowledge of technical writing to prepare effective reports. Requires good communication skills to prepare and deliver effective presentations.
Demonstrated strong organization, planning and team player skills.
Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:
Experience with the planning, assessment, design and/or maintenance of equipment and distribution system is required, with at least partial experience with distribution protection and automation.
Must have detailed knowledge of electrical theory and principles underlying the design of electric power systems. This knowledge is normally acquired through the completion of four years of University engineering training.
Requires application of mathematical and statistical knowledge and skills to perform analytical studies on performance and design of distribution system and assets.
Requires strong working knowledge of CYME, SharePoint, Microsoft Office (Visio/Excel/Word/PowerPoint), and SAP.
