Compensation: $21.33 (inclusive of Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant) or dependent upon current level within Schoolhouse Playcare Centres of Durham
*Split Shift positions are paid an additional $1.00 per hour premium

Schoolhouse Playcare Centres of Durham is a non-profit licensed childcare operator serving children from 0 – 12 years of age across Durham Region. We offer full-day childcare, before and after-school programs, non-instructional school day programming and licensed summer camps. The Role
Reporting to the Supervisor of Child Care, the Child Care Assistant is responsible for the overall learning and care of the children in the program. Working as part of a team, the Child Care Assistant will develop and implement programs, maintain safe environments, work collaboratively with families, maintain professional relationships, and adhere to the Child Care and Early Years Act.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures all children and families are provided with a high-quality childcare experience, and provides ongoing support to families as needed
- Recognizes and celebrates the uniqueness of all children, builds rapport, and manages group behaviour while ensuring a physically and psychologically safe environment
- Plans and implements a play-based program that is responsive to the observed interests and developmental needs of the children, is familiar with the Provincial framework “How Does Learning Happen?”
- Adheres to all requirements outlined in the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), and all SPC Policies and Procedures

The Ideal Candidate – Qualifications, Education and Experience
- Experience working with children within a recreational or licensed childcare setting
- Valid up to date Standard First Aid with CPR C (prior to the start of the position)
- Ability to effectively respond to the individual/unique needs of children
- Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
