We seek “Child & Youth Workers” (or Equivalent) to join our Applewood Academy team in Belleville, Ontario.

- Work Schedule: Evenings from 2:30 pm to 10:00 pm and every other weekend (9:00 am to 10:00 pm)

About the Role:
As a Child & Youth Worker, you will be supporting youth between the ages of 6 to 18 in the achievement of their individual treatment goals by assisting them in completing daily life skills, routines and planned activities that will help them stabilize and build internal, external skills to become confident and successful individuals. We intend to develop strong staff who enjoy working with our youth – even on the busiest days.
- Conducting client evaluations to determine specific needs as they enter the program; assess clients' relevant skill strengths and needs.
- Assisting clients in inserting options and developing plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance.
- Meet with clients to assess their progress, give support, and discuss any difficulties or problems.
- Building relationships with family members of clients to facilitate constructive communication.
- Developing connections with other social workers on the team and offering support in difficult situations.
- Counselling clients and providing crisis intervention when necessary.
- Referring clients to agencies providing financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment, and other resources.
- Supplying counsel and therapy to help clients resolve social and personal problems.
- Planning programs of assistance for clients.
- Assisting in evaluating the effectiveness of treatment programs by tracking clients' behavioural changes and responses to interventions.
- Attending weekly staff meetings to discuss the organization’s needs.
- Conducting research to keep current on the latest trends in social care work.
- Maintaining contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients' overall progress.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
- Completion of a college or university education in social work, child and youth care, psychology or other social science or health-related discipline.
- Experience providing support services to young adults 6 – 18 years of age would be a vital asset.
- Demonstrated experience working in community mental health settings.
- Compassionate and patient demeanour.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving ability.
- Ability to act swiftly and appropriately in crisis situations.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrated experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with case management software.
- Candidates must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- Access to a personal vehicle.
- A G-level Ontario driver’s license with a clear driving record.
Successful candidates will be required to submit the following as a condition of employment:
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector (must be current within the last three months)
- Copy of an Ontario Driver’s License (G level is mandatory)
- Current Drivers Abstract
- Proof of Car Insurance
- 3 Written Reference Letters
- Proof of Education (i.e., diploma, degree, or evidence of current active enrolment)
- Children’s Aid Society background check letter
