Permanent Childcare Cook (Food Handler)

Training period (St. Thomas location): The Childcare Cook (Food Handler) is responsible for assisting the Kitchen Administrator and Children's Centre Cook (Food Handler) in all aspects of the food services for the Children’s Centre and School Age programs. All aspects of the Childcare Cook's (Food Handler) position will be performed while working within the framework of the Vision, Mission and Value Statements of Milestones Children’s Centre.

Upon opening of Aylmer location - position moves to Aylmer (anticipated opening date early 2024): The Cook (Food Handler) is responsible for all aspects of the food services for the early years and school age programs at our Aylmer location. All aspects of the Cook's (Food Handler) position will be performed while working within the framework of the Vision, Mission and Value Statements of Milestones Children’s Centre.

Job Description:

• Provide input into the preparation of four week rotating menus for May and November annually, taking the Canadian Food Guide and MCC policies and procedures into consideration
• Record temperatures for appliances and food daily
• Record menu changes as required
• Assist in preparing accurate grocery lists for the purchase of food
• Monitor food inventory and rotate as necessary
• Assist in the order or purchase food or supplies weekly, bi-weekly or as needed
• Assist in maintaining recipes in an organized manner
• Follow the health regulations as defined in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, the Health Unit, the Fire Department and MCC policies and procedures
• Ensure that the kitchen is maintained in a clean and safe condition throughout the day
• Prepare all meals and snacks with the principals of safe food handling in mind
• Repetitive lifting of up to approximately 20 lbs

Basic Requirements:

• Safe Food Handling Certificate
• Experience working in a kitchen environment
• Valid Drivers License and reliable vehicle
• current Standard First Aid and CPR-C
• Criminal Reference Check (vulnerable sector)
• Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment
• Must be able and willing to work at our St. Thomas Children’s Centre location for training and then move to our Aylmer location, which will be opening in early 2024

Hours:

40 hours/week (must be available between 6:30 am and 4:30 pm) , Monday through Friday, plus attendance at monthly after-hours staff meetings and a minimum of 4 hours of additional professional learning per year.

*Position starts with training at our St. Thomas location and then will move to our Aylmer location once it opens. The successful candidate will work on their own in the kitchen once moved to Aylmer.

Wage: minimum starting rate of $21.09/hour. Wage will be determined based on experience.
