About the Opportunity

Claystone has an exciting opportunity for a Community Engagement & Communications Managerto join our team on a full-time basis. This is a hybrid role that requires being able to travel to Ryley, AB (approximately 1hr drive from Edmonton) as required.

In this role, you will be primarily responsible for spearheading the creation and execution of strategic initiatives aimed at fostering and nurturing relationships with vital stakeholders. This position will also develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to enhance Claystone Waste’s reputation among key stakeholders, customers, regulatory bodies, and the wider public. Stakeholders include public and private entities, non-profit organizations, and the communities in which we operate. Working in close collaboration with diverse partners, you will develop and execute actionable plans to advance our mission and objectives.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with public and private organizations, non-profits, and local communities where we operate
  • Identify, research, and analyze current and potential Community Engagement initiatives
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage stakeholders in activities that align with our mission and goals
  • Cultivate, promote, and maintain positive relationships with shareholders, non-profit organizations, and community members
  • Assume primary responsibility for coordinating and facilitating meetings for the Board’s Public Advisory Committee
  • Collaborate with administration to coordinate shareholder meetings including the Annual General Meeting and CAO Proxy Committee meetings
  • Create and implement comprehensive communication strategies to promote the organization’s objectives, enhance its reputation, and engage key stakeholders
  • Lead efforts to manage the organization’s external communication channels, including company website, social media platforms, press releases, and media relations
  • Coordinate organizational communications across all printed and electronic materials
  • Ensure clarity, integrity, authenticity, and consistency in brand messaging and visual identity across all communication channels and materials
  • Develop engaging and informative content for various communication materials such as press releases, articles, posts, marketing collateral, and promotional materials, including an organizational annual report
  • Oversee and coordinate external communications, disseminating information to various audiences including shareholders, government representatives, and industry stakeholders
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets to secure positive media coverage and manage crisis communication effectively
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources Manager to coordinate effective internal communications
  • Produce a weekly industry newsletter for the Board and Senior Management team (eg. Meltwater)
  • Design, plan, and coordinate events to promote our activities within the community
  • Create and manage campaigns to increase public awareness of our various initiatives
  • Attend and participate in community events as a representative of Claystone Waste
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team to implement community grant programs, and other departments to ensure that initiatives are effectively represented and communicated across all channels

More About You

To qualify, you will have 7-10 years of relevant experience, with post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience.

The following skills, experience, and abilities are also required:

  • Proficiency with various social media platforms and website management
  • Knowledge of the waste management industry, or the willingness to learn
  • Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships
  • Experience with government relations, municipalities, rural and urban cities
  • Flexibility in hours to attend community events as needed
