Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Head, Community Engagement will work with senior management to create an inclusive Community Engagement policy, develop a framework to execute that policy, develop relationships with a variety of stakeholders, and foster community representation throughout the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology (RTMP).
This position will work with existing organizational stakeholders, and help build new relationships that will contribute to the RTMP's strategic plan and overall networks. With guidance and support from the RTMP's senior management team, the individual will actively conduct organizational assessments, develop and implement strategies, and collaborate with other ministries, divisions, branches, and program areas on major initiatives. By creating, building, and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders, the incumbent will enable the RTMP to have a greater public value provincially, nationally, and internationally. This, in turn, will increase the RTMP's relevance to all Albertans and deepen the impact of community contributions on the RTMP's core functions.

  • Work closely with the RTMP's management team, staff, and outside agencies to create and execute engagement strategies, and to develop and promote programs and events that address the needs of RTMP stakeholders.
  • Work with appropriate organizations and RTMP staff to foster community involvement in the development of public-facing experiences (programs, exhibits, etc.).
  • Facilitate a robust and diverse community connection to the RTMP, through consistent consultation and participation in projects, activities, and outcomes connected to the RTMP's strategic plan and relevant GOA initiatives. This will also include developing and sharing project progress reports.
  • Work with staff across the RTMP to integrate Community Engagement into project planning though both formal and informal engagement strategies.
  • Reach out to targeted organizations, communities, non-profits, professional associations, and other parties in the collaborative development of new or ongoing initiatives.
  • Foster connections to museum and cultural associations throughout Alberta, Canada, and internationally, by building networks among like-minded institutions through collaboration, support, and resource sharing.
  • Spend time with other museums, communities, cultural groups, non-profit service agencies, and other targeted external stakeholders, with the intention of connecting with their needs and desired outcomes related to working with the RTMP.
  • Participate in relevant community activities to build positive relationships, while remaining impartial and flexible when working within different cultural standards and expectations.
  • Move projects forward with limited resources, while respecting cultural sensitivity.
