Description
Under the direct supervision of the Health Director, and in consultation with the Community Health Nurse and the Maternal Child Health Program the parent mentor is responsible for providing referral services to mothers/parents of young children which promote independence, self-sufficiency and utilization of community resources. The goal of the parent-mentor program is to assist families in developing parenting skills which will support them in raising healthy babies and young children in an environment of safety, growth and learning. The Community Health Representative provides to the population of Nekaneet First Nation residence on reserve timely responses to health issue inquiries and referrals, timely home visit follow-ups and assists professional personnel at clinics. Duties to include but not limited to:
Establish and maintain a client list and home visiting schedule for both Parent Mentor clients and residents of Nekaneet First Nation, Responsible for promoting the Maternal Child Health Program within the community to potential clients, health staff, leadership and membership, Responsible for identifying potential at risk mothers and make referrals as the same of the Community Health Representative
Qualification:
1. Minimum of Grade 12, or an equivalent Combination
2. Valid Drivers License, reliable vehicle and willing to travel
3. Must have CPR/First Aide
4. Criminal Record Check to include Vulnerable Sector
5. Ability to speak or understand Cree
6. Working experience with First Nations and having an understanding of the particular issues encountered by First Nations
7. Able to take direction, work under minimal supervision and within a team environment
