This position is to provide a face for the Community School and to create and nurture connections between community organizations, schools, and families within the Alberni Valley. The Community School coordinator is passionate about building a community that will support the healthy development of children and youth. The position works with local community knowledge and data to provide programming that will support the healthy development of children and youth.
The Community School provides programs and supports for vulnerable children in the 6 elementary schools and one high school in our community. We offer programs that support transition from elementary to high school: coordinate tiičmis Wellness Centre at ADSS and hold the contract for the School Meal Program in Valley elementary schools.
The Community School operates within School District 70 Pacific Rim. The coordinator plans and implements programming for vulnerable students in the Alberni Valley, by working within the Alberni Valley Community School Society Mission Statement.
This position will work within the tiičmis Wellness Centre at Alberni District Secondary School Monday- Friday from 8:30am-3:30pm.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
· Diploma or preferably a degree with emphasis in Recreation, Community Development, Education, Social Science, Non-Profit Management and / or equivalent combination of training and experience.
· Knowledge and experience with youth engagement strategies.
· Experience in preparing reports and grant proposals.
· Experience working to support children, youth and their families.
· Experience working to build connections that support a healthy community.
Job Skills and Ability:

· Demonstrated ability to practise your work through the lens of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Coordination
· Responding to community needs to support vulnerable students.
· Establish, build upon and supervise year-round programs for vulnerable children and youth.
· Planning, implementing, funding (grant writing) and evaluating Community School Programs
Grant Management
· Grant writing and soliciting a wide base on in-kind and other financial support.
· Collecting and reporting data as it pertains to Community School priorities and funders requirements.
Relationship Management
· Sound knowledge of local community agencies and organizations
· Developing and fostering community partnerships.
· Coordinate school approved organizations use of office space in the Wellness Center.
· Report to Board of Directors at monthly meetings.
Community Data
· Acquire and review community and school level data to inform your work plan for the Community School.
