Job Summary
The Assistant Site Supervisor & Handyman shall be responsible for assisting the Site Supervisor with the oversight, execution, and completion of residential construction builds. The Assistant Site Supervisor & Handyman will have a passion for taking ownership for the quality of work performed by external partners and internal team members while fostering professional and positive relationships through leading by example.

Major Responsibilities
1.) Timely & Accurate Field Inspections of Construction Works
· Ensure all Change Orders are posted with clarity timely and in full within each home.
· Ensure full understanding of weekly lot specific construction schedules, goals and milestones.
· Conduct daily inspections of completed subcontractor work in lot specific homes, documenting and reporting back on defects or incomplete works to the Site Supervisor.
· Inspect and follow up daily on trade attendance reporting back to the Site Supervisor to support the success of lot specific schedules.
· Support the Site Supervisor with subcontractor direction as outlined by the Site Supervisor.
· Hold subcontractors accountable for quality workmanship, on budget and on schedule.
· Conduct daily work inspections to make sure standards are met.
· Maintain consistent quality control and adherence to standard operating procedures.
2.) Exceptional Subcontractor Communication
· Develop and maintain strong and productive trade contractor relationships.
· Support the Site Supervisor by clearly understanding Scope of Works, and Dunsire practices used for subcontractor inspections.
· Always maintain a professional and positive relationship when addressing any external subcontractor.
· Work along side the Site Supervisor ensuring all subcontractors are abiding by Dunsire policy’s for a clean safe home upon completion of works at all times.
3.) Scheduling & Accuracy of Construction
· Creation and Completion of daily construction reports, updating construction trackers, and tracking lot specific defects by creating defect lists for the Site Supervisor.
· Updating weekly Construction Schedules as directed by the Site Supervisor.
· Call and schedule materials or trades – as directed and specified by the Site Supervisor.
· Work with the Site Supervisor to understand expectations, software and tools required to schedule construction the Dunsire way.
4.) Collaboration & Culture
· Teach, mentor, and train staff in technical and soft skills, including trade partners (subcontractors).
· Develop new staff and laborers as needed, through time management skills and practical hands-on training.
· Accountable for taking part in the execution of the health and safety function in the division including: a) Maintain a safe work environment through trade compliance, safe work practices on site, and immediate first aid response; b) Legislative compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS); c) Training other staff on OHSA and WHMIS compliance and tracking and documenting training progress; d) Act as a Ministry of Labor (MOL) and WSIB interface including reporting on-site accidents and site inspections, and overseeing the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) including proper documentation of meetings and ensuring follow-ups are done.
· Lead by example in personal safety behaviors at all times.
· Walk Site Daily to ensure a safe and clean construction site, presenting WOW.
· Take part in hands on prep work as requested by the Site Supervisor.
· Complete hands-on work in specific lots as instructed by the Site Supervisor.
Job Requirements
- 3-5 years residential construction handyman experience in the new home industry (or relevant experience equivalent).
- Minimum 3-5 years in the construction industry with experience monitoring all aspects of finishing work, paint work and tile work (or relevant experience equivalent).
- Must be detail oriented, high level of problem-solving abilities, and proven leadership skills.
- The ability to handle multiple projects/tasks.
- Knowledge of local building regulations (Local Parish Council) and other health & safety regulations specific to the residential construction industry.
- Leads by example.
- Excellent organizational skills. Detailed and thorough.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required in both oral and written form.
- Willing to take responsibility and be held accountable for results.
- Skills in building relationships with a broad network of contacts including trade partners & suppliers with a strong customer focus.
- Computer Literacy, strong skillset using software including Word, Excel, and ability to read construction drawings.
Work Conditions
- Mainly work on construction sites in conditions that include dust, mud, heat, cold, inclement weather and construction debris.
- All sites require safety equipment; including hardhat, CSA approved boots, eye protection.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Physical ability to lift-up to 50lb.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
