Remote Work: Flexible (both in-office and remote-work required)

Starting Salary: $19.72 per hour

The Role

The Archive and Research Coordinator role will support efficient archiving of documents and artifacts that will be made available to the Metis community. This position will also provide support in organizing events, some assistance with proposal writing and local research. This position will have no decision-making authority.

Duties include, but are not limited to: * Archiving and digitizing collection documents and artifacts such as Powley Case documents, River-Lot historic claim documents, and early MNO documents and files
  • Research and writing for the museum exhibits, coordinating with stakeholders; including consultants and the cultural committee
  • Research topics such as history of the community, harvesting practices, 1850 Treaty Promises and Metis culture; including music, dance, language and clothing
  • Performing interviews with Metis Elders and Knowledge Holders (training to be provided)
  • Providing assistance with funding proposals
  • Assist with the development of content for local walking tours
  • Work on relationship building within the Region as directed
  • Support planning for the anticipated Metis Nation of Ontario Rights Conference and Grand Opening of the Powley Case commemoration in September 2023.
  • Other reasonable duties as may be assigned
Qualifications
  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
  • Advanced communications skills
  • Superior organization skills and time/priority-management
  • Administrative or customer service experience
  • Ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision
Preferred
  • Post-secondary education (i.e. Office Administration)
  • Knowledge of indigenous (preferably Métis) culture, issues, and current activities
  • 1-2 years previous experience in a similar/comparable role

In 1993, the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) was established through the will of Métis people and Métis communities coming together throughout Ontario to create a Métis-specific governance structure and vision, encapsulated in the Statement of Prime Purpose. Today, the Métis Nation of Ontario represents over 25,000 Métis citizens.
