DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION

We are accepting application for the new position of Director of Education to oversee all education related departments: T’lisa̱lagi’lakw School, Post Secondary Education, Training & Employment and a new department, Kwak’wala Language Revitalization.

Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure that the School operates in accordance with the Independent Schools Act and ‘Namgis Education Policies
• Develop and implement an annual work plan that aligns with strategic goals and objectives
• Direct, oversee and manage Principal, Post Secondary Coordinator, Training & Employment Coordinator and Language Coordinator ensuring a positive, safe and respectful work and learning environment
• Supervise the development and delivery of curricular and special programs
• Develop, implement and report on the annual Education budget as required
• Liaise with School District 85 as required
• Ensure that students’ needs are addressed to achieve success
• Evaluate performance of staff at least once annually and as required
• Meet regularly with staff to foster a communication based environment
• Report to ‘Namgis Administration regularly and as required
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with the community through information sharing and communicating regularly and as required
• Other related duties as may be required

Job Qualifications:

• M.Ed in Educational Administration or a related field
• Member in good standing with the BC College of Teachers
• 2 years related experience in a First Nations environment
• Familiarity with FNESC is an asset

The community of Alert Bay has a population of approximately 1500 people (Indigenous and non-Indigenous). Located in Johnstone Strait, off the northeast tip of Vancouver Island, it is easily accessible through regular BC Ferries service from Port McNeill.
