Dispatcher - Afternoon Shift

Job Summary:
Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. is looking for a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a full-time City Dispatcher out of our Surrey terminal. The successful candidate will be responsible for aiding in dispatch operations at our terminal. This role will play a key role in ensuring the efficient and effective movement of freight while meeting operational goals and contributing to a positive working environment and culture. This position will report directly to the Assistant Terminal Manager and Terminal Manager. This is an evening shift with an anticipated start-time from 2-3pm Monday-Friday.

Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1-3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.
Responsibilities:

• Efficiently coordinate city drivers based on terminal workload.
• Aid drivers in effectively picking up and delivering freight.
• Provide guidance on freight-related matters when required.
• Assist in the day-to-day driver operations.
• Ensure operations are effective, safe, and efficient.
• Respond to customer complaints, investigate issues, and follow up with drivers.
• Troubleshoot delivery-related problems as needed
• Schedule drivers shifts as required and ensure they scheduled appointments.
• Driver performance management
• Absence management
• Maintain adequate equipment for drivers
• Monitoring driver times
• Undertake other duties and projects as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements in the transportation industry.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work flexible hours to cover AM and PM vacations.
• Regular shifts for this position are 10-hour days / 50-hour work weeks.

• AS400 experience is required.
• LTL Dispatch experience is required.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications and the ability to navigate technology efficiently is required,
• Transportation experience is required.
