Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as an Ecological Land Management Associate. As an Associate, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and gain valuable experience in various aspects of ecology and Land Management. Duties:
· Able to work in North Durham, the City of Kawartha Lakes, and Peterborough
· Time attentive: work start and finish, project completion awareness
· Work outdoors 6-8 hours/day, in all weather, in a variety of landscapes
· Maintain good personal self-care: social distancing when necessary, sun protection, snacks/lunch/water supplies, appropriate clothing for project/weather/industry standards, on-site self-monitoring of wellbeing, basic first aid care
· Assisting in microscopy, field sampling, and data collection
· Gardening skills: shoveling, pruning, raking, watering, wheelbarrow use, lawn mowing, transplanting, seeding, vegetable garden care, compost production, compost extracts
· Clear and professional communication with the project team and clientele
· Listening to and working effectively with the project manager/lead
· Keeping client records digitally and by hand
· Managing and maintaining all project tools and equipment
· Maintaining professional confidentiality
Qualifications:
· Time management: project management awareness
· Able to communicate and work well in small teams and individually
· Commitment to high-quality workmanship
· Self-starter: able to complete projects with minimal supervision, attention to detail, initiates work without requiring a request, able to engage in ongoing projects amid work interruptions
· Dressed in appropriate PPE, according to the weather, project, and personal needs
· Able to work outside for 6-8 hours/day, in all weather
· Able to identify plants and pollinators by memory and practice, able to use ID apps and taxonomic keys
· Able to use a shovel, pruners, loppers, sledge hammers, and watering devices
· Capable of lifting to 50 lbs
· Able to keep accurate client records digitally and by hand
· Intermediate knowledge of soil and native plants
· Beginner microscopy skills an asset
· Driver’s license an asset
