Under the direction of the Finance Leader, the Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing accurate and timely reports, statements, and analysis packages for external and internal management reporting. The successful candidate will be proactive, take initiative, have analytical and innovative problem-solving skills and be adaptable in a growing organization.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting:
- Contributes to the preparation of various financials statements and the completion of all accounting reports and requirements
- Prepares financial reports required for regulatory (CUDGC, CRA, Alberta Finance, and any other governing bodies) and management use
- Contributes to the development of financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and year-end basis, including preparation of year-end materials for external audit team
- Monthly reconciliations and analysis of accounts
- Prepares and monitors expense projections and budget allocations
- Supports departmental budgeting, forecasting, and annual business planning initiatives
- Analyzes financial information including key trends and metrics to provide financial insight and guidance on business decisions
- Creates queries in database programs to aid reporting
- Monitors liquidity and capital levels
- Supports compliance requirements for registered investments
- Contributes to the ongoing management of the Credit Union's Enterprise Risk Management Program, Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process, and Sound Business Practices
- Ensures all policies and procedures in daily activities meet safety, legal, and privacy requirements
- Maintains a strong knowledge of Credit Union policy and procedures, legislation, internal control checklists and audit findings
- Monitors General Ledger transactions and balances
- Audits and authorizes journal entries and reconciliations that are completed by accounting staff
- Contributes to the development and ongoing effectiveness of BVCU's internal controls and makes recommendations for operational improvements and develops tools to support process improvements
- Demonstrates fluency with Microsoft Excel and experience with SQL
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills with an eye for detail
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to multi-task, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
- Good computer skills, able to pick up new and existing programs related to the job quickly
- Committed to continuous learning and development
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
- Enrolment in/completion of the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) program is an asset
- ProfitStar, DNA-Banking system, and FAS knowledge a bonus
- 3+ years' experience with financial analysis/reporting
- Experience working with financial models, including profitability and capital investment
- Must be bondable (a criminal and credit record check will be required)
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
