Brazeau County is looking for a seasonal Grader Operator to join our Public Works Maintenance team from May to December. The Grader Operator safely and efficiently operates the self-propelled motor grader for road maintenance; precisely spreading and mixing materials to maintain the road surface to grade specifications and safely clearing snow from County roadways.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a grader and carry out road maintenance requirements including performing minor maintenance and cleaning on assigned equipment.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment; reporting any deficiencies to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Assistant Maintenance Supervisor.
- Adheres to guidelines as set out in Brazeau County’s policies and administrative directives, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations and codes, and participates in the Health and Safety Program.
- Overtime and weekend work will be required as necessary by operational needs.
- Shift work may be implemented as required, this may include emergency response call outs.
- To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department in order to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements.
- May be required in the event of a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.
Competency Areas:
Education/Training:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Licenses/Certifications/Designation:
- Valid Class 5 Licence is required
- Satisfactory Five-Year Commercial Driver’s Abstract is required.
Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:
- Minimum three years’ Grader Operator experience is required.
- Experience with maintaining public roadways is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with the Brazeau County area is considered an asset.
- A strong service focus with good verbal and written communication skills are required to communicate effectively.
- Ability to carry out physical labour.
- Basic computer skills are required.
Working Conditions:
- This position is subject to inclement weather and road conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- This role requires sitting for extended periods while driving as well as regular, frequent and sustained peeks of concentration throughout the day. Labourer activities require considerable physical effort such as moving, standing, lifting, or pulling awkward objects.
Shift and Rate of Pay
- Union Grid 7A – 7D ($32.33 – $37.58 per hour)
- Designated as Seasonal, Full-Time – 40 hours per week
- Season is approximately from May 6th to December 5th, 2024.
- Subject to Wage Guarantee - minimum 30 hours per week
- Hours of Work per Collective Agreement; Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
- The probationary period applies.
