Health and Safety Administrator

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a hard-working individual who exemplifies good vibes and great energy for the Health and Safety Administrator role. This is an entry level position for someone who would like to learn the art of health and safety, eventually obtaining new skills and training offered by Scovan. You are someone who is passionate about health and safety and wants to grow your career in this field.

Typical schedule Monday - Friday, estimated at 40 hours per week, may be flexible based on worksite needs. Weekend work and additional daily work may be required during peak construction periods.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help manage some aspects of new hire paperwork. May perform site safety orientations for new hires, sub-contractors, and visitors.
  • Gather, count, and record health and safety metrics.
  • Perform additional office duties such as creating new employee packages and preparing and tracking PPE.
  • Chair joint workplace health and safety meetings as well as fill the role of secretary for such meetings.
  • Assist with preparing content for toolbox talks, bulletins, alerts and formal health and safety meetings.
  • Recommend safety training and competency testing requirements of all staff, including facilitating new hire orientations.
  • Assist with claims management: WCB claims, reviewing injury reports, assisting with return-to-work programs, communicate with WCB, monitor claims cost and premium rates.
  • Assist in the completion of prequalification packages for jobs. Review safety obligations of the clients and ensure they are carried out as per the terms of the agreement and communicate to the Project Team.
  • Provide support to projects by maintaining a visible presence in the field.
  • Assist with facility, equipment, and work area inspections.
  • Other duties as required to fulfill the role.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Clean class 5 driver’s license
  • CSTS 2020
  • Standard First Aid (Asset)
  • Professional, honest, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with the team while also being self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Desire to be mentored and shaped into a well-rounded experienced health and safety professional over time.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Dependable, punctual, and reliable
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing environments quickly.
  • Must be comfortable in a construction environment. Previous construction experience or general knowledge of construction practices, tools, etc. preferred.
