Are you passionate about working with children and exploring the great outdoors? Camp Kawartha is seeking a fun and eager student to be our Healthcare Assistant. You will have an opportunity to use and expand your healthcare-related skills in a beautiful outdoor setting as well as help to develop health teaching programs.
Job Overview:
The Camp Kawartha Healthcare Assistant role is a very important role at camp. They assist in delivering healthcare to campers and staff, in our state-of-the art, eco-friendly health centre. The Healthcare Assistant works under the direction of the Healthcare Coordinator, in collaboration with the healthcare professional on site (registered nurse or paramedic), summer camp director, senior staff and counsellors.
The successful candidate for this role will be committed to living on-site for the entirety of the summer and be involved in all aspects of the camp community. The ideal candidate will be interested in building skills in the healthcare field, with a passion for working with children.
Responsibilities:
Some responsibilities of the role include:
- Assisting with health centre preparation and ongoing maintenance of supplies
- Assisting with screening and admitting campers upon arrival
- Assisting with the assessment and treatment of ill or injured campers and staff
- Assisting with medication storage and administration
- Documentation using our camp wide software program “CampBrain”
- Assisting health and safety teaching with summer camp staff
- Helping manage the daily flow of campers visiting the health centre
- Driving and/or going with campers/staff to doctor’s office or emergency department
- Assisting office staff with organization of health files pre and post camp sessions
- Ongoing engagement with the camp community
Qualifications:
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Recent Criminal Reference Check
- Working towards a health-related field
- Holding a current G drivers licence is an asset but not required
Skills/Highlights:
