Summary of Position
The Host delivers outstanding hospitality to all of our guests, showcasing their passion for hospitality, food, and wine together. Welcoming guests to our restaurant, providing accurate wait times and monitoring waiting lists, and managing reservations. Personality, confidence, patience and an ability to think quickly whilst managing many tasks simultaneously.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Be on the floor in full uniform and ready to go for scheduled start time.
- Welcome and escort guests to their tables.
- Provide accurate wait times and monitor the wait list section in the gallery.
- Manage and create reservations.
- Provide menus and announce the server's name.
- Assist guests who have inquiries or find an appropriate manager/supervisor who can.
- Thank guests upon their departure.
- Coordinate with serving and support staff about available seating options.
- Maintain a clean reception area.
- Cater to guests who require extra attention (e.g. children, elderly).
- Assist serving staff as needed.
- Deliver food accurately to the proper table and seat number
- Communicate and work closely with the concierge to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Present menu and provide detailed information when asked (e.g. about portions, ingredients or potential food allergies).
- Prepare tables by sanitizing and setting as required.
- Inform guests about the day’s features.
- Offer menu recommendations upon request.
- Arrange table settings and maintain a tidy dining area.
- Clear tables and carry dirty plates, glasses and silverware to servery for cleaning.
- Polish glassware and cutlery.
- Meet with restaurant staff to review daily features, changes on the menu and service specifications for reservations (e.g. parties).
- Comply with and follow all Lightfoot & Wolfville health and safety policies and procedures.
- Follow and comply with all government mandated policies as they relate to covid.
- Act as advocate for the Nova Scotia wine industry and answer questions about local tourism points of attraction.
- Develop comprehensive understanding of Lightfoot & Wolfville wine portfolio, business pillars and philosophies, and outstanding hospitality standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous work experience in food & beverage service industry
- Proficiency in English, multilingual (specifically French) is an asset
Knowledge and Skills Requirements

- Previous work experience as host or server
- Understanding of restaurant etiquette
