Inclusive Child Care Workers

This year a pilot project has launched for a new model of Inclusive Child Care (ICC) throughout the Central Okanagan. The ICC Model is a project involving multiple partners, aimed at providing Inclusive Childcare to anyone who would like to access it. Using a family-centered, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed approach, the new Family Connection Centre (FCC) will work as a collaborative place where families can access resources and information, as well as referrals into programs that can serve their child’s needs. This includes Inclusive Childcare, SLP, OT, Physiotherapy, and other support services. Alongside operational partners, BGCO aims to provide family-centered services in an environment where all children, including those with support needs, can participate, thrive, and have equitable access to services that respond to their evolving needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in the assessment, goal setting and program planning.
- Helps develop Individual Support Plans; documents and implements the support plan. Provides input into the evaluation of the program.
- Practices culturally safe, trauma-informed, relational, and family-centered approaches.
- Implement strategies appropriate for supporting infants, children and youth with support needs.
- Provide goal-directed assistance to infant/child/youth and or family.
- Evaluate participant needs and develop short-term plans to meet goals with the active participation of members and their families.
- Participates in training provided by Inclusive Childcare Consultant.
- Supports full inclusion of one or more children in a childcare, afterschool care, or life skills program, and implementing strategies identified by the Inclusive Childcare consultant(s) defined in the participant's support/care plan.
- Facilitates inclusion with child’s peers while providing accommodations to childcare environment.
- Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities.
- Recognizes, analyzes, and manages potential emergency situations such as aggressive behaviour to minimize potential ensures no harm comes to the members and/or the public. Reports problems to the supervisor.
- Collect information for planning and progress reporting.
- Liaise with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community.
- Develops and maintains respectful and healthy relationships with participant's caregivers and family and ensures effective communication.
- Maintains written reports regarding participants’ daily activities and progress. This includes progress reports, transition reports, and daily case notes. Ensures that all required documentation is complete, accurate, and up-to-date and that confidentiality is a priority.
- Ensures health and safety standards are maintained.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Certificate in human/social services field and relevant experience working with children and youth with special needs or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- ECE or ECE Assistant certificate and asset
- Valid class 5 drivers license and access to a vehicle, as travel is required between clubs
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
Hours: 25 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 1:00pm-6:00pm
35 hours/week, Monday to Friday, hours booked between 8:00am-6:00pm
On call positions, Monday to Friday, hours booked between 8:00am-6:00pm
Rate of Pay: $25.05 per hour and cost shared benefits if in a permanent position of 20 hours or more
