The Halibut House in Sarnia is currently hiring two Kitchen Assistants in the hopes of cross-training them to front of house. You will be responsible for supporting the kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking, and dishwashing/cleaning tasks. You will ensure the kitchen is clean, well-maintained, and organized, enabling chefs and cooks to focus on preparing and serving high-quality meals. The ideal candidate will be reliable, safety conscious and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum wage to start with potential for growth
Biweekly pay with 3-month probationary period.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation: Assist in basic food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping, slicing, and portioning ingredients. Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes.
Cleaning and Sanitizing: Dishwashing, cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils, and appliances. Wash dishes, pots, and pans. Ensure a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen area.
Stock Management: Assist in maintaining inventory levels of food and kitchen supplies. Unload and store deliveries properly. Rotate stock to ensure freshness.
Kitchen Organization: Arrange kitchen utensils, tools, and ingredients in an orderly manner. Keep the kitchen workspace clean and organized.
Compliance: Follow food safety and hygiene regulations. Adhere to health and safety guidelines. Dispose of waste properly and ensure recycling procedures are followed.
Teamwork: Collaborate with other kitchen staff members to ensure smooth kitchen operations. Communicate effectively with chefs, cooks, and servers.
Customer Service: Occasionally interact with customers, taking and preparing orders accurately. Provide excellent customer service when required.
Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not mandatory.
Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Attention to detail and willingness to learn.
