Lead Engineer
Role Summary:
The Lead Design Engineer plays a critical role in
conceptualizing, designing, and developing finished goods that not only
serve their functional purpose but are also aesthetically pleasing. This
role requires a deep understanding of mechanical and structural
engineering in various materials, combined with expertise in electrical
components and electronics packaging.
The ideal candidate is a self-directed, high-energy individual that can
work to a set schedule and budget with direction from, and accountable
to the Project Manager. They will also have a proven track record of
leading teams and projects.
The Lead Engineer will be an above average communicator and listener, a
relationship-builder that can take and provide feedback effectively,
consider all inputs and maximize collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply foundational knowledge in mechanical and structural
engineering to design hardware components and systems. Apply
detailed calculations and use simulation software.
- Provide leadership to the Engineering Team. Work with the Project
Manager to build project schedules and requirements documents.
- Lead Sustaining Engineering activities, develop verification
strategies and conduct effective design reviews.
- Become the subject matter expert and the authority in design
robustness and applications, as well as providing technical support
to Sales and Customer Service.
- Standardize and continuously improve documentation and change
management processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering,
or a related field. P.Eng and/or Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing and mentoring engineering
staff.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing finished goods with a focus on
aesthetics.
- A unique blend of logical reasoning and creative intuition, with the
ideal candidate being around 75% engineer and 25% artist.
- Knowledgeable in materials, finishings, metal treatments, finite
element analysis, HALT/HASS testing, CSA/UL certification.
- Familiar with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Appraised on best-in-class documentation practices.
- Exceptional attention to detail.

- Lead design engineer, 75% Engineering 25% Artist! Concept to finished product
- Deep understanding of mechanical & structural engineering to design, using various materials (sheet metal, plastics), including design of packaging for electrical/electronic components.
- Must have experience with hydraulics & pneumatic systems.
- Leadership Potential: Previous experience mentoring or leading a team and/or projects. Management or direct reports to come.
- Knowledge in materials, finishings, metal treatments, FEA
- Has experience developing products that require CSA and UL certification (highly desired)
- HALT/HASS Testing (ASSET)
- Looking for those with high energy, love to learn and work on different product lines and collaborate with others.
- MUST HAVE strong communication skills and Strong Attention to detail
