Pharmaceutical care, laboratory and blood services are essential to improving the health and wellness of citizens in BC. Rising costs, increasing demands by patients for more affordable, accessible, and convenient care as well as macro trends are increasing the need for system-wide change. In response, the Pharmaceutical, Laboratory & Blood Services Division (PLBSD) within the BC Ministry of Health has expanded its mandate to play a stronger role in driving excellence in pharmaceutical care, laboratory, and blood services across the province. This mandate includes "overseeing the provisioning, management and optimal use of pharmaceuticals, laboratory and blood services, related systems, and services to improve patient outcomes in the BC Health System."
Acting as the chair of the Provincial/Territorial (PT) Drug Shortages Task Team, the Pharmacist, PT Drug ShortagesTeam Lead, collaborates with Health Canada and representatives from Canadian provinces and territories to address, manage and resolve national Drug Shortages on an operational level. Reporting to the Director, National Drug Shortages Portfolio, this position also provides clinical advice and leads engagement with clinical experts across Canada on matters related to Drug Shortages.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy, B.Sc.(Pharm) or an entry-to-practice Doctor of Pharmacy AND a minimum of 3 years *related experience.
  • Must be a pharmacist licensed to practice in a Canadian jurisdiction or able to complete the registration within the first 90 days of employment.

*Related experience must include three years in each of the following:
  • Experience working in a variety of clinical pharmacy practice settings (e.g. acute care, community pharmacy, primary care, long-term care, etc.).
  • Experience developing partnerships and collaborating with diverse partners.
  • Clinical experience with a pharmaceutical supply chain in community, hospital and other healthcare settings.
  • Experience with federal / provincial / territorial initiatives in supply chain management.
  • Experience with pharmaceutical policy development.
  • Experience with the Canadian pharmaceutical distribution process and public drug insurance plans.

Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:
  • Advanced degree (e.g. master's or doctorate related to pharmacy) or completion of accredited Canadian hospital pharmacy residency program.
  • Experience working on projects, initiatives and services related to pharmaceutical supply chain and/or Drug Shortages.
  • Experience working on pan-Canadian healthcare topics or issues.
  • Applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).
