Reporting to the Manager, Project Controls, the Lead Project Controls will serve both a project and related functional role. This role will also support projects directly through an assignment on active projects.  The approximate split is 50% functional support and 50% direct project support on an active project(s).

 

On a project, the Lead Planner is accountable to the Teck project team for the planning and implementation of effective scheduling/planning resources, processes and systems on the project, within the standards set by the Manager, Project Controls. This may involve a self-execute approach or one of collaboration with Teck’s EPCM partners.

 

Within the function, the Lead Planner will be responsible for defining and establishing the Planning function within the Project Controls team of the Project Development Group. The Lead Planner will review, modify, and implement Planning functionality within PDG. In addition, the Lead Planner will support projects by providing high-level Planning guidance to a team of planners/schedulers.  This role will have a significant supervisory component of the planning/scheduling team, requiring mentoring, coaching, and evaluation.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Develop, define, and conduct bid reviews of consultants and contractors, ensuring adherence to appropriate RFP criteria and bid evaluation standards within the planning function
  • Develop and review schedule management plans, both internal and from service providers
  • Review submitted schedules and the basis of schedules for all consultant and contractor scopes of work
  • Develop L3/L4 resource-loaded schedules on Owner or SERA scope
  • Manage integrating subcontractor schedules into the master schedule
  • Identify schedule deviations on the scope with the package owner and working with the package owner to identify and implement mitigations
  • Identify critical or near-critical paths and understanding float usage on third-party schedules
  • Support forecasting on a monthly basis
  • Support project reporting and project presentations
  • Perform scheduling audits on service providers
  • Facilitate workshops with Project Teams
  • Manage and apply schedule risk analysis

 


Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, Finance or Business, or diploma in a trade, is required.
  • Minimum fifteen years of project planning-related experience in the mining industry 
  • Seven years of experience in an Owner’s role 
  • Five years of field experience and leading and developing teams 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in planning/scheduling development, review and analysis 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in schedule risk analysis techniques and planning sessions
  • Demonstrated proficiency in standards and tools development in support of Planning 
  • Strong Knowledge of the engineering and construction industry
  • PEng or AScT registration is an asset
  • CCP, CEP, PMP or other similar designations is an asset

 

Salary Range: $85.00 - $95.00 / Hour

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

 

Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
