The Department of Physical Therapy in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for one (1) full-time (1.0 FTE) Lecturer positions. The positions will be for a two-year term.

These positions are located within a health-care facility. Therefore, these positions require successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

The Department is currently comprised of 19 full-time faculty members, including one Endowed Chair and 4 Canada Research Chairs, over 152 clinical faculty and 24 support staff. There are 220 professional entry-level Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) students, over 60 graduate students and 10 postdoctoral research fellows. The Department has a strong research culture with approximately $5 million of Primary Investigator grant funding in 2020-21. Physical Therapy faculty members have research affiliations with hospital-based institutes including Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (www.vchri.ca), Providence Health Care Research Institute (www.providenceresearch.ca), university-based centres and institutes (www.ubc.ca/directories/institutescentres.html), as well as many other collaborative opportunities.

The Department of Physical Therapy’s key coursework activity relates to the training of students to become practicing Physical Therapists. The Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) program is rigorous and scholarly and delivers a high standard of instruction and creative opportunities for learning, which provides students with a strong foundation to support practice of the profession. The three core streams of the program are musculoskeletal, neuro, and cardio-vascular theory and practice. The Department also provides leadership in Physical Therapy research and the translation of novel research outcomes into best practices in this field of healthcare.

Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Physical Therapy, the successful candidate will have the following:

  • A minimum of a degree in Physical Therapy, and preferably a post-graduate Masters in Physical Therapy or a related discipline (education, clinical or research);
  • Previous teaching experience, preferably within a university Physical Therapy program and clinical settings;
  • Demonstrated evidence of ability and commitment to teaching
  • A minimum of five years of clinical practice experience as a Physical Therapist with experience in a relevant physical therapy area;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and strong technology-enhanced learning and computer skills.

As the Site Coordinator, Academic and Clinical for the Vancouver site, the successful candidates will be mainly responsible for:

  • Teaching and course delivery responsibilities within the MPT Program
  • Student support through course work and clinical placements
  • Providing policy and procedure expertise to inform program curriculum development and evaluation, within the appointee’s area of practice.

The successful candidates will be actively engaged in teaching within the MPT Program and will work with the Master of Physical Therapy - Vancouver (MPT-V) students, academic and clinical faculty, clinicians, and staff to support the delivery of the Academic (classroom and lab) and Clinical Education components of the MPT-V Program. The successful candidates will have a program coordination role at the Vancouver site and will work with the Associate Heads, Academic and Clinical to contribute to the delivery and evaluation of the curriculum and program policies. The position involves work with both university and clinical sectors, the national and provincial professional associations, the licensing body, and the community.
