What is the opportunity?

To lead a mixed team of commercial sales and/or service professionals to bring the best of RBC to new and existing business clients.  You will coach your team to deliver an exceptional client experience leading to the retention, acquisition, and growth of target business client relationships. You will build high employee engagement through recruiting, talent management, professional development, and ongoing coaching, growing diverse talent for today and the future.

Your passion in creating success for our clients, employees and communities will be the key to your success in this role. Your team can comprise of a combination of any of four Business Banking roles that are collectively responsible for the fulfilment of cash management and merchant services solutions; managing a portfolio of small business clients with borrowing needs less than USD50M TSNE and supporting Relationship Managers in end-to-end credit solutions and/or managing non-borrowing clients with primarily responsibility for new accounts, account amendment and merchant services support.

What will you do?

  • You will lead your team to high performance through differentiated client discovery focusing on attracting, growing, and retaining client relationships and introducing the full breadth of RBC partners and a broad range of products and solutions to deepen relationships through needs-based advice.
  • Champion digital enablement by becoming an advocate and coaching your team on the RBC Digital Banking applications and other self-serve and electronic banking solutions as Cash Management, Point of Sale and Ecommerce promoting the cash flow benefits of digital technology to the client and promoting regular usage through educating and guiding clients on how to use it.
  • Ensure your team demonstrates an understanding of the client’s industry and through discovery, learns more about the client’s business operations to present solutions that directly address the client’s banking &/or financial needs. Add value to our clients, through portfolio reviews, annual reviews and updates to business electronic reviews and customer relationship plans.
  •  Collaborate and coordinate with the various teams to leverage the expertise of RBC by identifying referral opportunities, making introductions together with appropriate referrals to RBC partners to develop and execute client contact strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to exhaust all options to resolve client concerns fully and completely and contribute to an effective and efficient end to end fulfillment.
  • Execute Practice Management routines weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually to keep track of progress, documenting what is going well, what needs to be done differently and what help is needed to close gaps and to meet and exceed performance goals.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Undergraduate degree, ideally in Banking, Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, or related field or experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years commercial banking experience or relevant mid-level banking experience.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and risk assessment and familiarity with the dynamics, needs and financing challenges associated with business clients.
  • Experience with emerging communications and technology (i.e. web based meetings, social media, digital banking, and mobile applications), and knowledge of both traditional and non-traditional competitors)
  • Strong coaching and leadership capabilities to create and sustain a high performing professional team.

Nice-to-have

  • New client acquisition skills (i.e., pitching the value proposition, lead generation, initial customer contact and cold calling, asking for referrals)
  • Credit skills including assessment of risk and financial analysis, credit structuring/solutions and presenting the deal.
