About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Compensation and Benefits and working as a part of the People Services team, the Manager, Compensation provides strategic human resources leadership by providing day to day coaching and support to the Compensation team and leading by example. The Manager is accountable for having an expert understanding of compensation matters across NSH and being knowledgeable of the broader provincial health sector compensation matters.
The Manager plays a key role in operational service delivery by providing direction to the Compensation Consultants, Advisors, Assistants and other members of the People Services portfolio on resolving complex issues and ensuring that they have the information and tools required to provide responsive, accurate, and consistent services. The Manager is responsible for developing and compliance of policies, processes, and programs that promote service excellence and comply with the organization’s collective agreements and employment guides.
The Manager is accountable to research and deliver innovative solutions that are aligned with the provincial program business objectives and are consistent with relevant policies, collective agreement language, legislation and the vision, mission, values and culture of NSH.
Collaborating with various partners on the People Services team is integral to the support of the human resources service delivery model as well as working in close collaboration with NSH leaders on complex compensation issues and matters of provincial scope in order to support consistency in practices across NSH.
The Manager demonstrates the ability to understand the needs of the clients they serve and makes recommendations for action plans to address issues that effectively use and integrate the services provided by People Services in order to support and enhance client team functioning. This includes but is not limited to job design and evaluation, classification appeals, market adjustments, compression issues, technological change, research for collective bargaining and arbitrations, application of compensation framework, policy development, leadership development and special projects that support a business area or client.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
-Graduate of post-secondary degree/program in Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
-Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation preferred.
-Minimum of 5 years’ compensation/job evaluation experience with multiple job evaluation systems and within an unionized environment.
-Minimum of one year experience in a leadership role (formal or informal); overseeing the completion of a specialized project or leading people.
-Knowledge of all aspects of human resources, preferably within the health sector.
-Advanced knowledge of job evaluation methods, specifically the HAY system and experience with qualitative (whole job comparison) and quantitative job evaluation tolls (eg.WyFactor plan).
-Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of trends in compensation management.
-Experience interpreting collective agreements and policies.
-Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-skills.
-Ability to anticipate, identify and assess future needs of the program and service delivery requirements across a range of functional areas supported, e.g. collective barging, job evaluation, compensation policy, compensation-related arbitration support, job design.
-Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships.
-Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem solving and decision-making skills.
-Excellent consultative, influencing and coaching skills.
-Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Compensation and Incentives
$44.13 - $55.16 Hourly
