What is the opportunity?
Reporting to the Associate Director, Financial and Regulatory Reporting, The Manager, Financial and Regulatory Reporting role will influence and oversee the regulatory financial reporting to the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) for Canada's leading full-service investment and wealth management firm within the Canadian Banking, Wealth Management and Capital Markets platforms.
By working with various internal teams and business partners, you will provide weekly, monthly and annual financial information to external regulators; perform financial analysis that is key for senior management's decision-making process; prepare commentary and variance reporting for the Board of Directors and coordinate the smooth execution of internal and external audits.
The successful candidate would be a driven financial professional with strong analytical and technical skills, is disciplined in time management, is able to work effectively and reliably under pressure. This individual will influence and drive changes with a strong mindset for implementing ongoing process improvements, has the ability to challenge status quo practices and lead transformation initiatives, assist with special projects and conduct investigative deep dives to enhance reporting accuracy and add efficiency gains.
What will you do?
- Ensure timely submission of monthly regulatory financial reports to regulators (CIRO) in accordance with various frameworks.
- Develop and document regulatory policies and procedures for reporting securities inventory balances and capital margining.
- Ensure complex corporate transactions related to new issues and M&A deals are accurately reported, documented, along with corresponding capital margin requirements.
- Develop effective strategies for identifying netting opportunities for hedged investment securities.
- Prepare and analyze capital concentration charge calculations and present explanations on periodic fluctuations.
- Facilitate the monitoring and projection of organizational performance targets through monthly and quarterly Risk Adjusted Capital (RAC) amounts.
- Present complex accounting topics to senior management, recognizing and anticipating potential business opportunities and updating research on new regulatory changes that impacts reporting.
- Lead monthly conference calls with internal departments to understand key drivers for significant transactions, identifying issues, documenting system changes and uncovering upcoming projects down the pipelines.
- Drive change to support management in identifying areas for streamlining and simplification of working papers, redesign existing processes, and implement automation to optimize efficiency.
- Support the team with ad-hoc financial control projects and new initiatives, participate/lead team discussions, performing analysis and executing organizational goals.
- Review and assess files prepared by other departments for accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate the annual external audit and Regulatory examinations.
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
- University degree in Finance/Accounting
- Finance/Accounting designation - CPA, CA preferred
- 3+ years' work experience in finance/accounting; preferably has an audit background
- Experience in financial analysis and or financial/Regulatory Reporting
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills: Word, Outlook, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
- Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)
- Excellent in investigating issues, performing deep dives and capable of problem solving in a fast-paced environment
