Job description

Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include locations in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

JAG Hotel, is a boutique hotel, best known for its musical theme, and is located on George Street West, one of North America’s best-known entertainment districts. The musical theme, feel, and mood are felt throughout the new expansion with its décor and pops of art. Connected by a pedway, the hotel has a total of 169 rooms. A new lounge with 140 seats will be added and the existing restaurant will be expanded to 120 seats. It will host a high-end wellness and fitness center, coffee shop, lap pool, and a luxurious VIP floor with a lounge. The hotel has a state-of-the-art two-story multi-purpose venue able to accommodate banquets of up to 600, receptions of up to 1,000, and concerts of up to 1,500. A great enhancement to the arts and entertainment in the downtown St. John’s area.

JAG Hotel is looking for a Manager of Operations who is a dynamic leader managing a wide range of responsibilities with experience in spearheading grand openings and the ability to address the unique needs of a new hotel to ensure success in the market.

Responsibilities:

  • Assuming overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the hotel, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Wellness Facility, and Guest Services, ensuring the highest standards are met or exceeded
  • Directly reports to the General Manager, providing regular updates on performance, budgets, guest feedback, and team dynamics.
  • Collaborate with the executive management team to develop and implement pricing and inventory strategies
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead an experienced team
  • Communicates a clear and consistent message regarding departmental goals to produce desired results.
  • Manages the guest experience, reviews guest feedback with the leadership team, and ensures appropriate corrective action is taken
  • Manages and conducts human resources activities on reporting staff members, ensuring employees are treated fairly and equitably.
  • Sets goals and expectations for direct reports using performance reviews, regular check-ins, constructive feedback, and employee appreciation strategies
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards including health and safety.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and sales team to ensure the hotel maintains a strong presence in both local and international markets.
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in a managerial role within the luxury hotel segment, with a proven track record of success.
  • Strong understanding of the boutique luxury hotel market, with an emphasis on guest services, and revenue management.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with experience in recruiting, training, and mentoring large teams.
  • Ability to drive financial performance, with expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and P&L analysis.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to forge strong relationships both internally and externally.
  • Strategic thinker with the capacity to handle complex situations and make informed decisions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Hotel Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
