Job Purpose
The Market Manager is responsible for day-to-day market operations. He/she will work towards maximizing market operation to promote vendor longevity and patron usage of the Market. The Market Manager will maintain open communication with vendors, fulfill reasonable requests and respond to concerns to ensure best practice market operation. He/she will manage and coordinate persons, activities, and resources to on/off board vendors, execute market events and accomplish objectives as set by the employer.
Duties and Responsibilities
Financial
● Ensure optimal cash flow and owner returns by working towards high vendor tenancy and variety, operating market events and suggesting improvements to Market systems to the Board
● Make reasonable financial decisions about repairs, improvements and maintenance under $5000
● Responsible for providing or directing bookkeeping to provide quarterly financial and overview information reports to Market shareholders
● Oversee cash float and replenishment as necessary
People, Polices & Practices
● Supervise and provide support to the Market team including accounting, marketing and extended contractors
● Manage vendor policies that support the Market and vendors
● Initiate and implement systems, policies and procedures to improve the level of service to patrons and increase team efficiency
● Identify human resources needs for the organization to achieve its goals
● Organize any required maintenance personnel
● Decide on vendor applications, update market software [Marketwurks] and oversee vendor access to building, including builds, move-ins and move-outs
Interpersonal Skills & Contacts
● Establish and maintain relationships with co-workers, vendors and market contractors
● Ensure that calls received are acted upon in a timely manner
● Alert vendors of upcoming events or a change in process; fire alarm tests, updates to rules & regulations, building improvements, building improvements underway, etc.
● Work with outside contractors for marketing and events
● Gather, and when needed, meet with prospective vendors and provide tours of the building
● Negotiate vendor agreements with support from Director Board and Market Consultants
● Help develop and nuture a vendor culture that is collaborative, supportive, and positive
Problem Solving & Judgement
● Coordinate the implementation of repairs, maintenance and renovations in conjunction with maintenance personal, facility manager, and construction team
● Evaluate problem situations and determine possible solutions or make recommendations to resolve problems
● Gather feedback and brainstorm with the Market Board and Consultants to ensure the best decisions are made and make proposals for Market improvements
Information Resources
● Accumulate data to prepare reports, spreadsheets, and other correspondence
● Advertise vacancies to attract vendors
● Track and maintain market information/documents to ensure deadlines and due dates are met
● Execute regular vendor communications (currently this is done through a mass email through Marketwurks)
Qualifications
Education
● Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Management or related undergraduate degree
Knowledge & Experience
● Working knowledge of Market Management
● 3 years of Management experience
● Able to work independently and as a team
● Exceptional ability to work well under pressure while prioritizing tasks efficiently
● Solid negotiating and sales skills
● Considerable amount of financial and project evaluation skills
● Maintain a professional attitude at all times and preserve confidential data
● Excellent communication and customer service skills
● Outstanding interpersonal, time management, problem solving and organizational skills
● Strong organizational and multitasking skills, including attention to detail
● Ability to learn and navigate programs such as: Marketwurks, Quickbooks, Square, Microsoft Excel, Kindred Banking, Kisi etc.
Working Conditions
● A standard work week of Tuesday – Saturday (hours may be flexible)
● Regular travel by car, approximately, 2-3 times per week
● Sitting at a computer desk using a chromebook
Physical Requirements
● Cleaning may be necessary (ex. Mopping, wiping down bathrooms on market day due to any accidents)
● Walking, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, driving, lifting, carrying
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
