At Local Engineering, we are an Alberta based engineering services provider supporting a select group of recurring clients. The growing Local Engineering team is small but nimble, which allows us to adapt to client requirements quickly and effectively.
Job Summary
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) Contractor with a specialization in Pressure Vessel design and/or Fitness for Service Assessments who is available to support various client projects on an as-needed basis. This role is typically remote (work-from-home), however working from the Local Engineering office and/or travel to client sites may be required on occasion.
Education & Qualifications
- Graduate of a recognized university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline, or equivalent.
- Professional Engineering designation with APEGA.
- Preference will be given to a candidate with more than 15 years of progressive Mechanical Engineering experience specializing in Pressure Vessel Design and/or Fitness for Service Assessments.
- Experience designing Pressure Vessels and heat exchangers in accordance with ASME Section VIII Div.1.
- Experience performing calculations to support alterations on shell and tube heat exchangers and Pressure Vessels in accordance with legacy versions of ASME Section VIII Div.1 and TEMA.
- Strong working knowledge of repair and alteration requirements per AB-513.
- Experience performing Fitness for Service (FFS) assessments in accordance with API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 is considered an asset.
- Experience using FEA to perform FFS assessments is considered an asset.
- Experience designing Pressure Vessels in accordance with ASME Section VIII Div. 2 is considered an asset.
- Experience performing FEA in accordance with ASME Section VIII Div. 2 Part 5 is considered an asset.
- Experience working with Compress is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents.
- Execute project specific Mechanical Engineering activities with parameters specified by the lead Mechanical Engineer and/or project manager.
- Develop, review, and stamp designs and calculation following Local standards and procedures.
- Report to the Mechanical Engineering Lead on progress of work and assist in mentorship and technical guidance of more junior team members.
