POSITION SUMMARY
A Melt Room Operator is responsible for safely operating a melting furnace to produce aluminum ingots and reports to a Die Cast Shift Supervisor. This is a physically demanding position that requires the ability to drive a forklift and to work with molten metal in front of industrial furnaces.
Hours of Work:
Weekly rotating shifts
Monday - Thursday
7:00am-5:00pm; 5:00pm-3:00am
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Furnace charging, working with a furnace at 1400F to properly melt aluminum to a molten state
- Ensure holding furnaces are operating at their best capacity by, charge well fluxing, fluxing of holding bath (not on line furnaces), routine channel cleaning (rodding), clean floor of reverb from build-up of metal, take spectrometer sample and label with heat lot number.
- Maintain safe, continuous operation of the melting furnace to produce high quality aluminum ingots.
- Inspect all scrap bin contents before charging, to ensure contents are not wet or contain debris, which pose a safety hazard.
- Use a forklift, in a safe manner. Ensure valid license is maintained for forklift.
- Place ingots onto stacker in an interlocking manner, strap bundle with metal banding and apply recycled aluminum control tag.
- Complete all necessary paperwork/documentation and utilize appropriate computerized systems/readings.
- Housekeeping of work area orderly, clean and free of debris
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
- Fork lift license preferred.
- Ability to prioritize and multi task in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Adaptable to change.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Team player, able to work well with others.
