Job description

MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS THERAPIST REQUIRED FOR ST. PAUL EDUCATION St. Paul Education is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Mental Health and Wellness Therapist for the remainder of the 23-24 school year. The Mental Health and Wellness Therapist provides counselling support to students and families to increase the student’s chances of success by developing positive skills that assist them in managing issues and events impacting their functioning. The Mental Health and Wellness Therapist is accountable for the development and facilitation of interventions designed to foster and promote stable home and community relationships. The Mental Health and Wellness Therapist uses systemic approaches to enhance students' social/emotional well-being in the school environment by establishing settings that promote Mental Health and Wellness. This position is funded by Jordan’s Principle. Specific Accountabilities Delivers trauma-informed and culturally sensitive counselling support to students Suggests opportunities for students to develop skills promoting mental wellness Consults with school personnel to foster environments supporting the social/emotional well-being of students Delivers crisis intervention and management to the school community, i.e. trauma, suicidal ideation, non-suicidal self-injury, etc. Enhances communication and relationships between school and home environments Supports school functioning through psychoeducational support and resource support Works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to provide resources and strategies for the student Provide support primarily at Ashmont School but may be required in other division school settingsQualifications: Master’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work considered an asset. Preference will be given to applicants who are accredited by a professional counselling association. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience providing support to Indigenous children, youth and families Experience in the counselling of children, and youth in relation to emergent social/emotional/behavioural issues Experience in supporting children and youth experiencing trauma Experience working with community resources and agencies, including Indigenous Nations Experience working with children and youth Belief in a strength-based and solution-focused approach Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills Strong organizational and time management skillsSalary and benefits are to be determined by qualifications and experience.Applicants are invited to submit a cover letter and resume to Sha-Lyn Tichkowsky, Director of Inclusive Education and Early Learning.
