Job description

Work Schedule is Monday through Thursday and every second Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Park Technicians will report to the RVCA Workshop on Dilworth Road just south of Kars. Maintenance duties may be assigned at different sites throughout the watershed.

There is no public transportation to the worksite; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation prior to applying.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is the lead intermunicipal agency working to address river-related environmental issues and concerns within the Rideau Valley watershed. Thanks to our many partners, the scope of our environmental protection work includes planning, source water protection, tackling flooding and erosion problems and researching water movement and use in the valley. We help people maintain healthy shorelines, provide advice on development-related issues and report to municipalities, agencies and the public about watershed conditions and trends. We also provide public access to natural waterfront areas, deliver community-based stewardship programs, reduce water pollution and protect fish and wildlife habitat.

You’ll be working alongside our experienced staff learning the skills required to develop, construct, operate and maintain our public parks and facilities. You may work on carpentry projects such as building picnic tables and boardwalks. You might be planting trees, laying down turf and tending gardens. You may even find yourself building gates and tearing down fences. You’ll have the satisfaction of working hard and seeing results.

We offer you comprehensive training for the safe operation and maintenance of grounds-keeping equipment such as riding lawn mowers and trimmers as well as first-aid and defensive driving. You’ll also become familiar with the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).

As the ideal candidate, you are a post-secondary studentor recent graduate who enjoys working in the great outdoors and has some experience working with tools and equipment. The physically demanding work requires that you are able to navigate unstable terrain and lift up to 50 lbs. You don’t mind working in adverse weather conditions like heat and rain. You must have a valid Class G2 or higher driver’s license and a clean driving record.

If you have a strong commitment to the environment and the protection of land and water resources, and if your education and career goals lead naturally to working in a Conservation Authority environment, please send us your resume and cover letter by February 23, 2024.
