Dover House is a family owned and operated 24 bed licensed long-term care home, currently looking for experienced and compassionate Health Care Aids (HCAs) to join our multi-disciplinary team. We offer a unique experience of a smaller, home-like environment to best suit our seniors' requiring person–centred care.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The successful applicant will perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
- assisting with resident ADL needs – including toileting, personal care, transfers, bathing, grooming, mobilization, and other duties as indicated.
- Following individualized care plans.
- Reporting and regular communication with nurses and other healthcare colleagues.
- Utilize safety measures and safe practices while working with seniors and within the care home, and with equipment.
- Respects seniors’ belongings, and care homes property.
- Utilizes utmost safety, following indicated safety measures when working with lifts, ensuring two people are present during the transfer.
- Respond to call bells and alarms.
- Observe and communicate with Health Care colleagues around senior behaviors – reporting any changes, or monitoring when indicated.
- Assist with dietary needs, such as feeding, and serving our food/providing light refreshments and snacks, providing tray when needed and monitoring intake (and output).
- Light sanitization and housekeeping.
- Completes senior’s laundry when required.
- Required to be part of educational sessions when offered available, working together as a team.
- Take responsibility with actions and understand the needs of seniors.
- Understanding and knowledge of senior care, in particular Dementia and cardiovascular diseases.
- Perform all duties in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.
- Ensure the utmost dignity, compassion, and respect to all seniors in care to promote independence through the assistance necessary to ensure a quality of life
- Understand the need for privacy and confidentiality necessary to work within a vulnerable sector.
- Work under the supervision of both the Care Coordinator, LPN(s), and RN(s).
Qualifications and Skills:
- Graduated from a recognized Care Aide Program or Out of Province equivalent .
- Excellent oral, comprehensive, and written English skills.
- Other languages are helpful.
- Understand that meaning of Person-Centered Care
- Team player -- able to interact well with a diverse number of health professionals to best serve the residents in care and report all abnormal findings to the appropriate persons.
- Multitasker -- able to be flexible with your day yet ensure all that needs to be done is completed.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Punctual, reliable, dedicated, loyal, and respectful.
- Flexible to work all shifts and have reliable transportation to and from work.
Equivalency Certification:
- Current Immunizations – Covid 19, TB Testing or Chest X-ray
- Current and Satisfactory Criminal record check and ability to work in Health Care environment

Job Types: Permanent part-time with the ability to pick up more shifts.
Salary: From $28.74 per hour (shift differentials available)
Possible Schedules:
- 4 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Morning shift
- Evening shift
- Attempt made to keep like shifts together (i.e. morning and afternoon, or afternoon and night shifts when required).
- Weekends as needed (with goal to provide every second weekend off – changes may happen around vacation coverage).
Supplemental pay types:
- Bonus pay as in shift differential
- Overtime pay when indicated – authorization necessary
